It says "piece of Translucent Crystal" which means Rough Translucent Crystal. I had some in my storage. This doesn't work, you have to mine it while you have the quest. I couldn't find any clear quartz at the Waragon's Nest so I followed ghury1's advice. There is a clear quartz vein just past the first fence on the right BEFORE entering the cave. I mined it and the quest updated and I was able to do the turn in after a very long ride.
