It was a few years ago. The nesting grounds of elk around Behr
were frequented by hunters quite often.
Then, one day, lo and behold, a steed of dreams appeared, such as I have only read of in books!!
Apparently tired, the legendary horse had chased away the elk and was deep in slumber.
The poachers slowly approached the Diné, seeking to scare it away.
And yet, they feared the old myth that injuring the steed would place on them some unknown curse.
I did not take part in hunting elk,
but my own curiosity had led me to join their ranks for this ordeal.
Even from afar, I could sense the amazing amount of life energy
exuded by the Diné's mystical presence...
I can still sense traces of its energies where the Diné had fallen asleep.
Might be why the elk herds have grown so abundant in number as well.
