If someone had a similar problem and was looking for a Koi NPC in the area marked by the yellow circle, ignore it and go to the very end of the cave. There you will find the Koi.

At the very back where the wild monster is there is a wall that you can attack, you forgot to mention that, then just go through and talk to it ^^
