Chapter 5: Illezra and Cartian

The third and fourth records.

"Illezra... she returned to me, though not in the form I remembered. Illezra demanded my tome, the Book of Cartian, a manuscript containing my knowledge of the Black Spirit."

It was Illezra who revealed the Primordial Truth to Cartian. And so, Cartian betrayed Tarif. If what is recorded is true, then Illezra did not steal the Book of Cartian, but took it through a pact with Cartian.

Now that I think of it... Illezra once spoke of Cartian.

"...Illezra thought Cartian's staff was the key—the one that would unlock the seal. But she was wrong. It wasn't the staff. She used you as the key. Your body broke the seal."

Was I truly the key to Hystria? In the haze of memory, I recall Illezra saying something much the same. First, I must examine the last recording device that remains.

"When the time comes... When the chosen one is ready, and all powers converge—the gate shall open. To the child bearing a heart shrouded in darkness. Only your purity can restore the balance."

If I am the key to Hystria, then the heart shrouded in darkness spoken of in the records must refer to me—a soul possessed by the Black Spirit.

"All is ready. I wait at the end. O 'Heart Shrouded in Darkness'—come to Tenebraum."
