"This is the punishment I received for doubting the presence of god. Do you remember the monsters grandpa told you about over the hill? They will live in their heinous forms forever. It is probably their punishment for denying god deep down inside their heart. My child, what you just said can discourage numerous people. The scary looking soldiers and priests are here to help us recover our ancient temple and prepare for the descent of god. The land full of monsters over the ridge once belonged to us, and that is where our god will come. Just pray. The only thing you need to know is that god will grant you your wish if you pray with all your heart."

The child took his grandpa's words and proceeded with the ceremony that had been passed down for generations. There was no reason or rhyme behind their faith.
