Chapter 4: The Tightly Shut Gates

Brynhild pointed to the firmly sealed gates. From what she had learned while scouting ahead, they opened only once a day, when the slaves of this domain brought in the ore they had mined.

We decided to wait for that chance.

Together, we fought through every obstacle and raced for the open gates, slipping inside just before they closed.

There was no time to rest. Enemies came at us at once, and we had to keep fighting.

But getting through one gate was only the beginning.

Brynhild said Markthanan should be somewhere above the castle, but the inner gate leading to him was locked as well. Thinking back, she recalled that the supervisors below likely carried the keys between them.

To open the next gate, I set out to find them.
