Played around with his amity, most combinations will succeed since most are at 100%. Most combinations work so failing is the only challenge that isn't possible over 3 fails.

If you get "Fail to spark X times" with x>2, just reset, its almost impossible

Edan has low Interest level and not 100% Spark rate. Put him first if you want chance at more Favor. Or swap for higher interest knowledge.
