I get these on a semi-regular basis from my laborer when working an Iron node.

I think it's Node dependant. I have a worker mining Iron Ore from Southern Cienaga and have only gotten Rough Mud Crystal's after mining more than 1000 Iron Ore. Ratio of 1000 Iron Ore to 88 Rough Mud Crystal's.

Go to the Abandoned Mine (the one with the orcs in Mediah, below Altinova). Search for the elites, they often drop crystals. Get as many crystal as you can get, then mash them. Profit. With this method I get about 1600 or more of this powder.
