Chapter 4: The Tightly Shut Gates

Agnete pointed to the firmly sealed gates. From what she had learned, they opened only once a day, when the slaves of this domain brought in the ore they had mined.

We decided to wait for that chance.

Together, we fought through every obstacle and raced toward the open gates, slipping inside just before they closed.

There was no time to rest. Enemies came at us at once, and we had to keep fighting.

But getting through one gate was only the beginning.

Agnete did not know where Markthanan was within the vast castle, and we could hardly search the entire place without end.

We needed a key to open the way ahead, so we decided to search the surrounding area for any place one might be kept.
