Show/hide full quest's text I'm sorry if I scared you, I was just surprised. This riddle is from one of the oldest Valencian tales, one that has been passed down from a long time ago. It is a tale about the first king of Valencia and what he said on his deathbed. Those who were at his deathbed thought that it was his dying wish for them to find some great treasure he hid somewhere. When the king closed his eyes for the final time, they did not sleep for three days, searching and digging up the desert. No, they weren't acting out of greed! They were following the will of the king so that they could shower the kingdom in gold. But in the end, all they got were calloused hands and broken shovels. They found absolutely nothing, and one by one they gave up. Looking for the treasure is now considered by most a fool's task. Yet, you can still find references to the riddle all over the place. Don't despair, there has been plenty of wide-eyed treasure hunters before you. Perhaps they left behind some of there research around. Also, did you know that the king's contemporaries used to call him the sun that never sets? When the king died, it was thought that he became one with the same sun that shines its light down on this world. Maybe if somehow got really close to the sun, it might tell us where treasure is. The first king of Valencia was also called the sun that never sets. They said that you would go blind by looking directly at him, and that his mere presence gave strength to his people. (It is a book titled How to Face the Sun. Could the "sun" in the title be referring to the first king of Valencia?) (There is also what looks like a part of a compass where the book was.) | |
