Saw on the similar page as this that they are only located between the hexe sanctuary node and witches chapel node. One of the issues in seeing this tree was that it is a really thick and tall tree, easy to miss if zoomed in, just look for hanging skulls and black strips of cloth hanging.

Trees with skulls hanging down might not register as a mob and get the red target but you will hit them if you attack.
