If you enter the main monastery area from the east, before entering there are two gargoyle statues. The book in on the ground behind the right statue.

If you park at the node manager then walk to the courtyard entrance that is indeed where the book is but for some reason I couldn't find it until I destroyed the statue so if you can't see it try blowing the statues up.
