The Rhutums weren't so violent in the beginning. The childish exploits of now withered denizens of Calpheon say that if one could only look past the Rhutum's hideously monstrous appearance, they were actually enjoyable company. According these oldtimers' eyewitness accounts, the Rhutums were brave but stupid, and it became an entertaining pastime to taunt them as cowards so to provoke them to just about any dare. If you could truly befriend a Rhutum, apparently they would let you in on their antics against the Catfishman as well.

And yet, someone in this world wishes to stamp their entire kind out of existence. An unknown darkness has taken hold in their heart, driving the Rhutums mad, and leaving only their wizards still sane. The Rhutum Wizard are ready to offer up their very life energies in the inevitable final battle.
