This door at the top of the 'castle'/houses.

I cannot figure out how to get the knowledge. The bookshelf doesn't have the option.

I do have the knowledge now, but I'm not sure excactly when I got it. I assume I just forgot about it.
Try doing the following...
- Check again
- Have you done the related quest? The knowledge is a quest objective in a black spirit quest. Cannot remember the name of it unfortunately.
Just do as many black spirit quests in that area as you can, and you'll probably get it.
- Search for "Kzarka and Bareeds" in your knowledge library. Remember that it's capital sensitive.
If this doesn't work, i'll be more than happy to help you further
