As it turned out, Young-goo's hunting dogs were trained not to bite. The boy merely rolled down a hill, frightened by the dogs. When Young-goo reported this to the Hyungam, he was instructed to burn a fawn with a rotten leg along with the child's torn clothes.

A diseased deer and an injured child made the Hyungam believe it was an unlucky day, and he sought to purge himself of that foul fortune. The next day, Young-goo went to inform the mother, but she had already made her tragic choice, and the government office was scrambling to contain the rumors.
