Chapter 2: Golden Pigs

The silence in Donghae Province was deafening after the disastrous collapse of the gold mines took many lives. Goboon cried all night, resentful of her husband's decisions, but she kept her feelings to herself. That night, she set out alone to retrieve her husband's remains.

As she approached the collapsed mines, she saw a glimmering golden light emanating from within. Following the light, she discovered the Golden Pigs that glowed like the sun.

Snouts turned up, sniffing the air, the Golden Pigs suddenly ran toward her. Goboon shut her eyes tight, expecting this to be the last of her. But the Golden Pigs surprised her by handing her a piece of gold.

Goboon vowed to share this newfound ray of light with others caught in the depths of darkness. She brought back people in similar circumstances, and the Golden Pigs gave them gold pieces, too. It was said that the Golden Pigs could smell poverty from afar. But in truth, all they wanted was to see people's faces gleam with joy and bright smiles.
