Chapter 2: The Brilliance of Mongryong

In the land of Hanji County, the Seong family was known for their considerable influence, though they had long been denied official titles, a source of much concern. On that fateful day, Siwon was deeply engrossed in his studies. Beside him, young Mongryong gazed upon a pomegranate hanging from a tree and inscribed a verse:

"Within the pomegranate's shell, seeds glisten like crimson pearls,"

Mongryong was an exceptionally bright child. While other children were just beginning to speak, he had already mastered the written word.

From that moment, Siwon devoted himself to teaching Mongryong with utmost dedication. Mongryong, who grasped ten concepts for every one he learned, began his journey through the rigorous state examinations at the tender age of thirteen. From the initial literary exams to the final civil service tests, he passed all nine stages with top honors. Though he failed once, his achievements were nothing short of extraordinary. The people claimed that he could ace the state exam nine times over, and sang praises of his unparalleled intellect and perseverance.
