The Saunils in the Mountain of Eternal Winter known as the "Erekhan" were once an ordinary tribe not much different from those in other regions. However, after they were chosen by the seventh witch Erethea, they inherited a portion of the witch's powers drawn from the Dragons she had slain, which granted the Erekhan the power they had long sought. To this day, no one knows exactly why Erethea passed on the power of Dragons to them, but one thing was certain: she named them after her own name and set them to guard her labyrinth. After Erethea passed, however, the Erekhan's scales did not cease in growing, leading their abilities to be viewed as the "Dragon's Curse." For if they are not regularly kept trim, their scales would grow heavy and burdensome, to the point of choking them to meet a terrible end.
Many scholars attribute this curse to the grudge of a powerful Dragon who was unjustly slain in the past. While stronger and more powerful, the Erekhan are forced to scrape off yellow, decaying scales for the rest of their lives.
