i was wondering why the rich merchants ring data doesn't include the trading drops.

Is that server sided?

Does anyone know how people found out about the rich merchant ring pieces being a rare drop from trading back in the day when it was first discovered?

If you're talking about the drop sources and chances, then yes, this data is server side.
As for how people found out, I guess by personal experience. They were just lucky enough.
