As near as I can tell the only way to gain knowledge is from a mission that one of the npc's out in the middle of the steps gives you. Female kama acher warrior it's the area with the water hole and many elephants around she's on the east side. gives missions for ferri birds and the panther and featherworlf boss.

U can get knowledge normal way by killing it. I got mine by gathering hide
